Expanded gamut and standardization in flexographic printing

blog post featured image

Expanded color gamut is a process that consists of the intelligent and controlled standardization of flexographic printing presses. Special colors are added to the traditional four-color process (CMYK) in order to achieve a wider and more accurate range of tones, known as Expanded Gamut. This process allows the printing of more intense colors, similar to those obtained with high-volume anilox rolls (solid areas), achieving a simulation close to 90% of the PANTONE color scale, while also delivering images with higher detail levels, typical of process-color anilox engraving. The combination of these two characteristics provides an additional benefit: the printing of gradients with smooth transitions, perfectly defined highlights, and more intense shadow areas.

Flexibility!

You can produce different jobs at the same time, with virtually no color limitations. With a standardized process, urgent orders do not disrupt the planned workflow. Consistency and repeatability!Você pode produzir diferentes trabalhos ao mesmo tempo, praticamente sem limite de cores. Com o processo padronizado, pedidos urgentes não criam distúrbios no fluxo de trabalho planejado. Consistência e repetibilidade!

HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK?

The main workflow consists of adding the orange, green, and violet (OGV) colors. In short, the press operates with seven colors, with the advantage that both inks and anilox rolls remain fixed.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Increased productivity and cost optimization:

  • Only the plate sleeves are changed, resulting in a significant reduction in machine setup time;
  • By keeping the press in production for longer periods, the occurrence of clogging in anilox rolls and plates is reduced;
  • With a thinner ink film, it is possible to increase production speed and reduce drying issues.

Consumers are increasingly demanding!

The demand for short-run packaging with a high printing standard, rich detail and information, and contrasting, vibrant colors that attract attention at the point of sale challenges converters to seek the most effective solutions.
